What is it?

A muscle strain is when muscle fibres tear. There are 3 grades of muscle tears. Grade One is minor/mild (around less than 5% of muscles torn), Grade Two is moderate (a lot of torn muscles fibres though still in tact) and Grade Three is major (complete rupture).

How and why does it happen?

There are numerous reason why muscles tear, below is a list of potential reasons:

  • Lack of warm up

  • De-conditioned

  • Improper loading 

  • Improper technique

  • Fatigue and Inadequate rest with intensive training

  • Excessive repetitive movement

  • Overstretched/Overworked too quickly

  • Poor Posture and Functional Muscular Imbalances

  • Poor flexibility
